Sioux Center, Iowa — Makenna Kooima, a senior at Western Christian High School, has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender volleyball program.
Kooima is a defensive specialist for Western and is averaging 5.2 digs per set this season and has 38 ace serves. Last season she had 37 ace serves and averaged just under a dig per set.
“We are thrilled that Makenna is joining our program. She has had a remarkable senior season in the libero role at Western Christian. We are grateful for the development she has made under head coach Tammi Veerbeek and we look forward to her continuing that growth in our program. She’s a fast athlete with tremendous balance and coordination. She will provide strong depth for us in the ball control position. Makenna is a great fit for our campus community with her desire to grow in all areas of her life as she seeks to serve the Lord and others,” said Dordt volleyball coach Chad Hanson.
Western is currently ranked no. 1 in Class 2A volleyball and the Wolfpack won a state title last year.
“I chose Dordt University for the strong Christian atmosphere where I can grow in my faith while furthering my education and volleyball careers,” said Kooima.
Makenna is the daughter of Jason and Robbi Kooima. She plans to study Exercise Science at Dordt.
