Lions Overpower Nighthawks

Rock Rapids, Iowa — The Central Lyon/George-Little Rock Lions accumulated 350 yards rushing and had 5 takeaways en route to a 41-14 win over the Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks Friday night at Dick Null Field in Rock Rapids.

The Lions scored on their first possession when Kole Telford found the endzone from 7 yards out. After the missed extra point it was 6-0 CL/GLR with 7:02 to go in the first quarter. Central Lyon/George-Little Rock got on the board again early in the second when Dalton Korthals punched it in from 2 yards out to push the score to 13-0. The Lions continued their scoring when Telford found on the open hole to take it 99 yards to the goal line to make it 20-0. BHRV finally got into the endzone when Eric Salazar punched it in from 2 yards out, and shortly before half Josh Heitritter was on the receiving end of a 54 yard touchdown pass from Tanner Te Slaa. Heading into the halftime intermission it was 20-14 Central Lyon/George-Little Rock.

The second half belonged to the Lions with Telford scoring on the ground two more times and Dylann VanBerkum took an interception 40 yards for the score making the final 41-14.

CL/GLR improves to 1-4 on the year and 1-0 in the district. They will travel to Orange City to take on MOC-FV next week. BHRV falls to 0-5 on the year and 0-1 in district play. The Nighthawks are on the road again next week to Okoboji.
