Mackey Signs With Dordt Basketball

Le Mars, Iowa — Spencer Mackey, a senior at Le Mars Community High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.

“We are very excited about having Spencer join our program. He does a lot of things well on the court and had a really nice senior year. Spencer is a perfect fit for Dordt, as his family is dedicated to the Defender Way, and has been a part of the Defender community for many years. We have high hopes for the future development as a player and a man of faith in the next four years,” said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.

Mackey is a 6-1 guard who has earned all-conference honors three times and was a first-team all-district pick. He averaged 14.8 points per game this season with 3.4 rebounds per game. He averaged more than 13.5 points per game as a junior and senior and has scored over 1,000 points during his high school career. Mackey has been selected to play in the IBCA All-Star Game.

“I chose Dordt because I created a relationship with the coaches I felt was far closer than any other school that recruited me. I also loved the family environment on my visit,” said Mackey.

Spencer is the son of Jeff and Heather Mackey. He plans to study Criminal Justice at Dordt.
