MOC-Floyd Valley Downs Orabs in Siouxland Conference Softball

Sheldon Iowa — MOC Floyd Valley put together a 3-run third inning and made it stand up for a 3-2 win over Sheldon in a Siouxland Conference game at Orab Field Monday night.

The Dutch used key hits and solid base running to score three in the third. Addison Wierda, Madison Probst and Delanie Niemyer all reached and scored. The first run scored on a single to left center by Niemyer. The second scored on a fielders choice bunt by Clair Yaw with the third run coming on a double to center by Carlin Smith.

Sheldon scored in the bottom of the fourth as Madison Van Meeteren led off with a single and eventually scored from third on a wild pitch.

Sheldon scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as Van Meeteren dropped a single into center field and scored on an error on a ball put in play by Kourtney Dekker. With no further scoring the final would be 3-2 in favor of the Dutch.

Both starters went the distance with sophomore Carlin Smith getting the win. She gave 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 5. Sheldon freshman Kourtney Dekker took the loss going 7 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits. She struck out  3.

With the win the Dutch are 4-3 on the year and 4-2 in the conference. Sheldon is 3-3 for the year and 2-3 in the Siouxland. Both teams are back in action Wednesday with Sheldon at Sioux Center and MOC Floyd Valley hosting Boyden Hull Rock Valley.
