MOC Floyd Valley Gets Two In Sheldon

MOC Floyd Valley swept a conference basketball double header in Sheldon Tuesday night. The Dutch took the girls game 53-42 then followed with a 70-58 win the the boys game for the sweep.

In the girls game Sheldon took an 11-7 first quarter lead only to see the Dutch go up by five at the half 20-15. At the end of three it was 39-26 with MOC Floyd Valley getting the win 53-42.

Maliah Kleinhesselink had a game high 20 points with a dozen coming in the fourth quarter. Twin sister Makenna hit for 12 in the contest. The Dutch had two players in double figures as well with Carlin Smith getting 17 and Carolynn Meines adding 10.

With the win the Dutch are even at 1-1 on the season while the Orabs are 0-2.

It was the season opener for the boys teams. Sheldon opened on an 11-0 run before the Dutch went on a run of their own to take a 19-17 first quarter lead. At halftime they were up 39-31 and at the end of three the Dutch led 55-49 before getting the win 78-50.

MOC Floyd Valley put four players in double figures led by Luke Korver with 22 points. Ayden Klein was next with 13. Jesse Van Kalsbeek hit for a dozen with Tyson Blom adding 10 points off the bench. Sheldon was led by Shane Brouwer with 20 followed by Blake Radke with 17. Radke hit a trio of threes in the third quarter and another in the fourth as the Orabs pulled to within 5 points late in the third quarter.

The Dutch open at 1-0 with the Orabs at 0-1. Up next for Sheldon a double header at Sibley Ocheyedan Friday night followed by a Saturday afternoon matinee at South O’Brien. MOC Floyd Valley returns to action Thursday at Spirit Lake with a Friday home doubleheader with Okoboji.
