Mustangs Close Softball Regular Season With Win Over Sheldon

mustang logoThe Sheldon and George Little Rock Central Lyon softball teams closed out the regular season in Sheldon Friday night. The Mustangs posted a 9-0 win over the Orabs.

Clean up hitter Kori Schulte keyed the offense with a 3 run homer to straight away left field as the Mustangs scored three in the third inning. A double to center drove in two more runs as part of a three run fourth inning. Schulte scored three runs on the night as well.

Abby Eben got the win going 7 innings giving up 4 hits. She struck out 8 and did not walk a batter. Allie Jongewaard took the loss. She walked 2 and struck out 5.

With the win the Mustangs finish at 22-5 on the season and 11-3 in the Siouxland Conference. Sheldon ends the regular season at 13-13 with an 8-6 conference mark.

Tournaments are next for both teams. Sheldon opens play in Class 3A Region 1 on Tuesday at they travel to Boyden for a game with Boyden Hull Rock Valley.

With play in games in Class 2A Region 1 George Little Rock Central Lyon will get an extra day off. They open Wednesday night at home in the quarterfinals against the winner of a Tuesday play in game between Okoboji and West Lyon.
