Mustangs Sweep Wolfpack

Hull, Iowa — The Newell-Fonda Mustangs got the sweep over the Western Christian Wolfpack in basketball action in Hull Tuesday night.

In the girls contest the Mustangs used their press and jumped out to a 18-9 lead after one quarter of play. In the second quarter Western was able to get to within three points, but at intermission Newell-Fonda had a 26-17 lead. After three quarters of play the Mustangs had a 44-34 lead and went on to win 62-52.

The Mustangs got a game high 16 points from Macy Sievers. Ella Larsen and Maggie Walker each added 13. The Wolfpack had a team high 11 points from Ally Postma and 10 points from Olivia Granstra.

With the win Newell-Fonda improves to 1-0 on the year. Western falls to 0-1.

A strong second half gave Newell-Fonda the win in the boy game. Western jumped out to an early 14-4 lead midway through the first quarter, and heading into the second had a 17-8 lead. At halftime Western’s lead had dwindled to 25-24. The Mustangs used a big third quarter to have a 43-38 lead after three, and held on to win 56-52.

Newell-Fonda got a game high sixteen from both Trey Jungers and Alden Mahler. Western got a team high fourteen from Dawson Feenstra.

With the win Newell-Fonda improves to 1-0 on the year. Western falls to 0-1.

Up next for the Wolfpack is a home contest against West Sioux Friday. Newell-Fonda will continue their road stretch at Sioux Central on Friday.
