Nighthawks Lose Nailbiter To Warriors

Sergeant Bluff, Iowa — Boyden Hull Rock Valley came up 3 seconds short of a district win against Sergeant Bluff in Sergeant Bluff Friday Night. The 42-35 Warrior victory had 3 lead changes 3 ties before a 10 yard quarterback scramble finished off the Nighthawks.

The first half saw the Nighthawks take the lead at 7-0 with a 1 yard Caleb Kats quarterback keeper, finishing off a 34 yard 2 play drive at the 6:34 mark.  The Warriors would answer with three consecutive touchdown runs by Kaden Helt on the next three drives.  His runs of 75, 55, and 64 yards were enough to give the Warriors a 21-7 lead at the half.

The Nighthawks would answer with two consecutive drives in the 3rd quarter.  Caleb Kats went to Kody Noble both times for scores the first was a 19 yard pass and the second was a 6 yard pass to even up the score at 21.

In the 4th quarter both teams would trade scores. First the Warriors reclaimed the lead at 28-21 with another Kaden Helt 58 yard run. The Nighthawks turned the tables with a Caleb Kats to Landyn Van Kekerix 45 yard touchdown pass.  Following the Nighthawks scoring drive Kaden Helt had his 5th credited touchdown of the evening for the Warriors with a 4 yard touchdown reception at the 2:32 mark in the 4th.  The missed David Clausen extra point made the score 34-28.  The Nighthawks would answer and take the lead at the 1:43 mark with a 7 yard Kody Noble run.  The successful Enciso extra point made it 35-34.  Unfortunately the Nighthawks could not hold on as the Warriors would score with 3 seconds left on a 10 yard Smith Quarterback keeper, and the Nighthawks last gasp on the ensuing return was unsuccessful.

The Nighthawks fall to 0-1 in the district and 1-2 overall. Boyden Hull Rock Valley will host Heelan in Hull next week. The Warriors improve to 1-0 in the district and 2-1 overall. The Warriors will host Le Mars next week.
