No. 1 Morningside Hosts No. 6 Northwestern In NAIA Clash

Sioux City, Iowa — The Great Plains Athletic Conference football race begins with a top 10 showdown in Sioux City Saturday night as top ranked Morningside hosts number-six Northwestern.

Morningside finished 14-0 after wining a second straight NAIA national title while Northwestern finished 11-2. Red Raider coach Matt McCarty says it does not matter when or where this game is played.

McCarty says the Mustangs have some key playmakers back on offense.

McCarty says because of the numbers Morningside puts up on offense an outstanding defense can be overlooked.

McCarty says the Red Raiders need to limit mistakes.

Morningside coach Steve Ryan says Northwestern provides a difficult opener for his team.

Ryan says a key will be slowing down a Northwestern offense led by quarterback Tyson Kooima.

Ryan says the approach does not change just because it is the season opener.

Morningside has a 13-6 edge in the all-time series and the Mustangs have won six straight.
