Northwestern Looks To Tame Broncos This Weekend

Orange City, Iowa — No.5 Northwestern College looks to stay unbeaten when they host Hastings this weekend in a GPAC match-up at DeValois Stadium. Kickoff on Korver Field is scheduled for 1pm. Ranked fifth in the last two coaches’ poll, the Red Raiders are 7-0 in the conference, 8-0 overall, with two games left in the regular season. Hastings is tied with Jamestown for eighth place in the GPAC with a 1-6 record, 2-6 overall.

Since defeating Panhandle State (Okla.) and Jamestown (N.D.) to open the season, Hastings has dropped its last six games, all within conference play. They are tied with Jamestown for eighth place in the current GPAC standings with a 1-6 record, 2-6 overall. The Broncos have been outscored 102-28 over the last two weeks in losses to Briar Cliff and Dordt.

Harper is in his ninth year as the Broncos head coach, owning a 39-44 overall record heading into the 2019 season. He returns eight starters (4 offense, 4 defense) from a 2018 team that finished seventh in the GPAC with a 3-6 record, 5-6 overall. They were picked seventh in the GPAC preseason poll.

With its 38-7 win over Briar Cliff last weekend, Northwestern concluded its road schedule unbeaten (5-0) and improved to 7-0 in the GPAC, 8-0 overall. They have two games left in the regular season, both at home, against Hastings and top-ranked Morningside. Northwestern has wins over (RV) Valley City State, Jamestown and Doane at home this season, outscoring opponents 115-16.
