KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mustangs of Morningside (Iowa) extended their perfect record to 7-0 this past Saturday posting their third shutout of the season defeating conference opponent, Dakota Wesleyan 69-0. Another impressive performance by the Mustangs has earned them the No. 1 spot in the Coaches’ Top 25 for the seventh week in a row.
No. 1 Morningside received all 17 first-place votes this week. The Mustangs are currently ranked No. 1 in 11 statistical categories including pass offense per game (340.6), offensive yards per game (670.3), first downs per game (27.7) and pass efficiency (210.8).
Moving up to fifth in last week’s edition of the coaches’ poll, the Northwestern Red Raiders hold that spot again after earning a 23-3 win over Doane last weekend. Northwestern totaled 327 points, six better than No.6 College of Idaho and 23 points in back of No.4 Grand View (Iowa). The Dordt Defenders received votes in this week’s poll and are 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the GPAC with all three of its losses coming to teams currently in the top-10 of the poll. Those blemishes are to Morningside (1), Northwestern (5) and Keiser (10) and those three teams are combined 22-0 this season. The loss to Keiser to start the season dropped the Defenders out of the first in-season poll after occupying the no. 24 spot in the pre-season poll.
