Northwestern College will host Red Raider Football Legacy Day on Saturday, October 6, 2018, a day to recognize all Red Raider football alumni who played from the 1972 – 1988 seasons.
This purpose of this day is to recognize the great accomplishments of this era of Red Raider football, and in particular the coaches who led the teams during this time. One special opportunity is to honor Mel Tjeerdsma, who is being inducted into the National Football Coaches Hall of Fame. It will also be a great opportunity to thank Coach Larry “Bub” Korver for his leadership during this time of incredible success for the Red Raider football program. All assistant coaches from this era will be invited and introduced as well.
In addition, we will recognize the 1973 and 1983 national championship teams on this day. This era also had several other NAIA national runners-up, semi-finalists and play-off contenders they would like to acknowledge.
Schedule of Events
8:15 AM Former coaches join current coaching staff and team for the team meeting at Korver Field. Coach Mel Tjeerdsma will address the 2018 Red Raider team.
9:00 AM Former coaches are invited to share breakfast with current Red Raider football and coaches. Former coaches will be introduced to the team.
10:00 AM Campus tours begin – for all former coaches and players. Meet in the lobby of the RSC
11:00 AM – 12:30 PM Tailgate lunch for returning team members and families. Game tickets will be provided to alumni team members and family who return for the day.
12:40 PM Alumni team members and coaches will be introduced on the field – entering from the south end of the stadium. Attendees will be provided a reserved seating section in the home stands.
12:53 PM Anthem – coin flip etc.
1:00 PM Football Game vs Dordt College
Half-Time Recognize all returning players and coaches from the Legacy Era – with specific recognition of the 1973 and 1983 National Championship teams and our Hall of Fame Coaches.
Post-Game Casual dinner (game day attire) for returning players and spouse/guest at the Bultman Center – 5:30 PM. Advanced registration required. Brief program to recognize and honor teams – primary focus on fellowship with former team mates.
