Northwestern Track And Field Wins 4 Events At Dordt Invite

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Northwestern College women’s track and field team turned in 21 top 10 performances at the Dordt Invite, the second meet of the outdoor season, held today in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Northwestern took home a first place finish in the final event of the day, winning the 4×400 in a time of 4:09.6, currently the second fastest time in the GPAC. Relay members include Abigail Clarke, Morgan Van Der Brink, Madi Blankespoor and Savonne Sterk.

All four members of the 4×400 relay also turned in a top 10 finish in an individual event; Clarke (5th), Sterk (6th) and Blankespoor (9th) in the 400m while Van Der Brink placed fifth in the 800m.

Caitlin Ostbye and Lizzy Blum, the Raiders dynamic sprinting duo, continued their outstanding season with three top 10 showings each. Ostbye placed second in the 200m and has the second fastest time in the GPAC to date; she also placed eighth in the 100m. Blum was 10th in the 100m, fourth in the 200m and the duo teamed with Allison Birks and Jada Marco to place third in the 4×100.

Anna Hiebner finished third in the 1500 and Birks was third in the 100m hurdles.

Northwestern athletes totaled eight top 10 performances in the field events, led by Becca Bindert who was third in the shot put and fifth in discus. Birks recorded her third top 10 finish, placing fourth in the long jump.

Three Northwestern College men’s track and field athletes won their respective events at the Dordt Invite held today in Sioux Center, Iowa. This was the second outdoor meet of the season for the Raiders.

For the second consecutive week, Lorenzo Jones won the triple jump, doing with a leap of 14.09m, over two feet further than the second place athlete. Jones also finished second in the long jump and anchored the fifth place 4×100 relay. The freshman has the second best triple jump mark in the GPAC, 11th best in the NAIA.

James Gilbert Jr., the national runner-up at the NAIA Indoor Championships in the long jump, won today’s long jump event with a leap of 6.93m (22’9″), just ahead of his teammate Jones. Gilbert Jr. has the top mark in the GPAC to date. Three additional Raiders placed in the top 10 in the long jump (Jake Davies – 3rd, Dexter Wiese – 7th, Cade Pedersen – 10th).

Bryce Paulsen won the Raiders third individual title on Friday, taking first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.75, currently the fastest in the GPAC.

The men’s 4×400 relay finished second with a time of 3:23.3 (Davies, Oostra, Agre, Pryor), Aaron Shepard finished second in the high jump and Carter Behler was the runner-up in the javelin.

Northwestern men’s track and field athletes finished among the top 10 in 27 events this weekend.
