Orab Boys Basketball Team Wins Tournament Opener

Sioux Rapids Iowa — Sheldon opened 2A District 3 tournament play with a 70-56 quarterfinal win over Pocahontas Area Monday night. With the win at the Sioux Central High School Gym the Orabs are on to the upper bracket semifinal on Thursday against the Comets as the tournament site changes to the Boyden Hull Gym. The other quarterfinal at Sioux Rapids matching North Union and Sioux Central was postponed to Tuesday night.

Sheldon led at all the breaks as they opened with a 19-12 first quarter lead. At the half the lead was up to 11 at 37-26. A Shane Brouwer three at the buzzer gave the Orabs a 55-41 at the end of the third quarter. Sheldon would go on to win 70-56.

The Orabs had four players in double figures getting a game high 23 points from Kaleb Ackerman, 14 from Jordan Jeffries, 13 from Mitchel Wolf and 11 from Tye Sudbeck. The Indians put three players in double figures led by Trey Oehlertz with 18 points. Luke Vanderham hit for 13 with Tyson Peterson pumping in 10.

With the win Sheldon is 7-15 on the season while Pocahontas Area ends the year at 9-13. Up next for Sheldon will be the District semifinals on Thursday at 8:00 pm.
