Orabs and Dutch Split Basketball Doubleheader

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs and MOC-Floyd Valley Dutch split a Siouxland Conference doubleheader Tuesday night at the O-Rena. The girls game went to the Dutch 54-40 while the boys game went to Sheldon 75-51.

In the girls game Sheldon jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, then MOC-FV went on a 7-0 run of their own and at the end of the 1st quarter the Dutch led 13-6. Sheldon started the 2nd quarter on a 6-0 run to get within 1, but MOC Floyd Valley would pull away with a 25-19 halftime lead. Delanie Niemyer had 12 first half points for the Dutch, Brooklyn Grady had nine 1st half points for the Orabs.

Zoe Heemstra for the Dutch got the first 9 points in the 2nd half en route to a 39-27 lead heading into the final quarter and finished the contest with a 54-40 victory.

MOC-Floyd Valley had a game high 16 points from Niemyer and 13 points from Heemstra. Sheldon got a team high 10 points from Grady.

MOC-FV improves to 3-4 on the year, 3-3 in the conference. Sheldon falls to 0-7 on the year and 0-6 in the Siouxland

The boys contest was another long range clinic by the Orabs. The Orabs hit 10 from downtown on their way to a conference victory.

It was a battle in the opening quarter and after 1 Sheldon led 17-16. Heading into the half Sheldon would extend their lead to 35-27. Then Sheldon would pull away for good in the 2nd half. Jaden Kleinhesselink and Steven Van Meeteren each had 10 3rd quarter points on their way to a 61-35 lead heading into the final quater and later came away with the 75-51 win.

Sheldon had 4 players in double figures. Kleinhesselink had a game high 22 points, Tyler Johnson had 12, all coming from beyond the arc, Kyle Boerhave had 10 points, and Van Meeteren had 10 points. MOC-Floyd Valley got a team high 18 from Trenton De Haan.

Sheldon improves to 5-1 on the year and 4-1 in the Siouxland. The Dutch fall to 2-4 on the year and 2-3 in the conference.

Sheldon is on the road on Friday as they take on Sibley-Ocheyedan. MOC-Floyd Valley will be at home against Okoboji on Friday.
