Orabs Down Mustangs in Bottom of the Seventh

Sheldon Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs scored a pair of runs with two down in the bottom of the seventh inning to get an 8-7 win over George Little Rock Central Lyon in Siouxland Conference softball Tuesday night.

Tayler Weber singled into the gap in right – center to score Nicole Meyer from third and McKenzie Wagner from second as the Orabs walked off an 8-7 win over the Mustangs.

G-LR-CL opened the game with a three-run first inning. Carley Snyder and Kayla Gerken both singled and came in to score on a 2-run double by Becca Roskam. Roskam scored on a ball put in play by Brecken Boekhout  as the Mustangs went up 3-0.

Sheldon got two runs back in the home half of the first as Nicole Johnson reached on an error and score on a ground ball out by Taylor Weber. Alexa Vanden Hall Doubled and scored on a ball put in play by Zoe Koerselman to cut the lead to 3-2.

Sheldon tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the second when Nicole Meyer singled and scored on a single by Nicole Johnson. The Orabs took a 4-3 lead in the fourth when Nicole Meyer reached on a fielders choice and scored on Tayler Weber’s single up the middle.

The Mustangs moved back in front 5-4 with a pair of runs in the fifth. Becca Roskam singled and scored on a single by Brecken Boekhout. Boekhout scored on a triple to center by Wynona Steenhoven. The Mustangs added two more  runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-4 lead as Ashley Boer walked and scored on a single by Kayla Gerken. Gerken scored on single by Brecken Boekhout.

Sheldon make it 7-6 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth as Nicole Johnson and Tayler Weber had back to back singles. Johnson scored on a fielders choice by Mikayla Simonson and Weber came in on a sac fly by Zoe Koerselman .

Sheldon held the Mustangs scoreless in the top of the seventh to set up the Orab comeback as Sheldon scored a pair of runs to end it. Nicole Meyer and McKenzie Wagner scored on the two-run single by Tayler Weber that made the final 8-7 in favor of the Orabs.

Nicole Johnson got the win going seven innings giving up four earned runs. She walked 2 and struck out 10. Greta Ackerman took the loss. She went seven innings giving up four earned runs while walking three and striking out two.

With the win Sheldon improves to 2-2 and 1-1 in the conference. G-LR-CL is 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in the Siouxland.

Sheldon travels to Okoboji Wednesday while the Mustangs are at Boyden Hull Rock Valley.
