Orabs Open Softball Season With Home Win

Sheldon opened the softball season at home with a 3-1 win over Sibley Ocheyedan Tuesday night. It was our broadcast season opener as well.

The Generals scored first in the opening inning as lead off hitter Alayna Wingate reached on a walk and later scored from third on an outfield error on a ball put in play by Keytin Elser.

Sheldon tied the game in the home half of the first as Makkena Kleinhesselink led off with a walk and stole a pair of bases to reach third. She scored on an rbi single to right field by Tori Elgersma.

The Orabs took a 2-1 lead in the third inning as Emma Barwick reached on an error and scored from third base on an rbi single up the middle by Elgersma  as she drove in two of the Orabs three runs.

Sheldon finished the scoring in the fourth inning as Maliah Kleinhesselink led off with a triple to center field and later scored on an rbi single by Kourtney Dekker to make the final 3-l.

Dekker got the win going the distance. She gave up 1 run on 4 hits and struck out 6 and walked 4. Alayna Wingate took the loss going 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 4 hits. She walked 3 in the contest and struck out 12 batters including striking out the side in the second and third innings.

With the win Sheldon opens at 1-0 while the Generals are 0-1. Both teams are home on Wednesday with the Orabs hosting Spencer. The Generals will host George Little Rock in Ocheyedan.
