Orabs Split Non-Conference Basketball Doubleheader at Spencer

BasketballSheldon traveled to Spencer for a non-conference basketball doubleheader Tuesday night. The Orabs left town with a split dropping the girls game 46-40 while taking the boys game 68-38.

Points were at a premium in the girls game with Spencer taking a 7-5 first quarter lead and moving in front 18-14 at half time. At the end of the third quarter the Tigers led 30-26 before going on to the win 46-40. As a team the Tigers went 9-of-14 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and it was the difference in the ballgame as they did just enough to keep the lead at four late in the game.

Sheldon got a game high 22 points from Emily Johnson. Spencer had two players in double figures getting 14 each from Ally Schlaeger and Kelsey Rolfes.

With the win Sheldon falls to 5-7 on the season. Spencer is a game over .500 at 6-5 for the year.

In the boys game Sheldon led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter before pushing it to a 34-16 halftime lead and they never looked back. At the end of three the margin was 52-28 following a jam by Collin Wolthizen as the quarter came to a close. With bench players getting their opportunity on both sides in the fourth quarter the final score would read 68-38 in favor of the Orabs.

Sheldon had three players in double figures led by Turner DeJong with a game high 19 points. Wolthizen was next with 14 and Andrew Provost hit for 12. DeJong hit for five 3-point buckets with all of Provost’s points coming from beyond the arc. Spencer had one player in double figures getting 12 from Blake Illg.

With the win Sheldon improves to 9-2 on the season while Spencer falls to 4-5. Up next for Sheldon will be a return to Siouxland Conference play with a stop at George Little Rock on Friday night.
