Orabs Sweep Home Basketball Doubleheader With HMS Monday

Sheldon Iowa — Sheldon swept a non conference basketball double header with HMS at the Orina Monday night. The girls game went to Sheldon 66-30 while the boys got a 61-50 win.

In the girls game Sheldon started fast with a 15-5 first quarter lead and were up at the half 35-13. At the end of three the lead was 53-18 with the Orabs getting a 66-30 win.

Brooklyn Grady led all scorers with 14 points. Maliah Kleinhesselink joined her in double figures with 13. The Hawks were led by Lydia Harders with 10 points followed by Jasmine Lux with 9.

With the win Sheldon improves to 4-9 on the year. Hartley Melvin Sanborn is now 3-8 on the season.

The boys game ran tight until the middle of the fourth quarter. At the end of the first quarter Bennett Haack hit a 3 just before time expired to pull the Hawks even at 11-11. At the half the score was tied at 24-24. After three HMS had pulled in front 36-30. In the fourth quarter Sheldon got back to even at 40-40. Then Kaleb Ackerman hit a three and Shane Brouwer converted a three point play to put Sheldon in front 46-40. From there the Orabs took control and rolled to a 61-50 win.

Sheldon put four players in double figures led by Ackerman with 19 all in the second half and 17 in the fourth quarter. At the free throw line Kaleb went 9 of 10. Tye Sudbeck hit for 12 points. Blake Radke and Shane Brouwer added 11 apeace. HMS was led by sophomore Lance Berends with 14 points. Fellow sophomore Kooper Ebel had a 9 point night.

With the win Sheldon is 4-8 on the year while the Hawks are now even at 5-5. Both teams are in action Tuesday and both on the road with Sheldon at Hinton and HMS at Trinity Christian.
