Orabs Win Home Opener Against Sioux Central

Orab-LogoThe Sheldon Orab football team opened the season with a 28-12 home win over Sioux Central.

Sheldon opened the scoring on a 4 yard quarterback keeper by Matt Buenger for the first points of the season. Trevor Mayer added the extra point and the Orabs led 7-0 with 2:20 left in the first quarter.

With the Rebels driving and time running down the Orab defense forced a fumble at their own 15 and went 85 yards with under a minute to play. Buenger found Collin Wolthuizen for a 13 yard touchdown pass. Mayer added the point after and Sheldon led 14-0 with: 04 seconds left in the first half.

Sheldon got the ball to start the second half and went on a 57 yard drive with Hunter McDonald capping the drive with a 10 yard touchdown run. Mayer’s kick was good and the Orabs led 21-0 with 8:46 to play in the third quarter.

Sioux Central responded with an 89 yard drive that ended with 11:56 to go in the fourth quarter as Devin Tripp scoring from 2 yards out. The kick was no good and the Sheldon lead was 21-6.

The Orabs got on the board with 4:59 to play in the ballgame as Logan Otis scored on a 6 yard run to cap an 82 yard drive. Mayer added the extra point and the lead was up to 28-6.

Tripp scored his second touchdown of the night from a yard out to close the scoring. The 2-point attempt was no good and the score was 28-12 with 1:35 to play.

Sheldon travels to Spencer next Friday to go against the Tigers in another non-district game with the kickoff set for 7:30.
