Pioneers get Sweep of Orabs

Sheldon Iowa — Okoboji swept a Siouxland Conferece basketball double header in Sheldon Friday. The girls final was 61-38 with the Okoboji boys posting a 70-49 win over the Orabs.

In the girls game the Pioneers opened a 16-12 first quarter lead and were up at the half 28-18. At the end of three the lead was 43-32 with Okoboji going on to win 61-38.

Okoboji had four players in double figures led by Megan Christopherson with a game high 22 points. Carissa Doran and Kallyn Stumbo added 13 each with Camry Jones hitting for 10.

Sheldon was led by Raegan Freeman with 9 points followed by Maliah Kleinhesselink with 8 points on the night.

With the win Okoboji ranked #8 in the latest 3A poll is off to a 3-0 start while the Orabs are 0-2 on the season.

 

In the boys game that followed Okoboji led at all the breaks on route to a 70-49 win. They were up 21-11 at the end of the first quarter, 37-21 at the half and 51-41 afteer three quarter before getting the win.

Lucas Lorenzen led all scorers with 32 points. Jamison Helmers had a big night as well offensively hitting for 24 points. Sheldon put two players in double figures as well. Mitchel Wolf had a team high 13 with Trey Iedema hitting for 11 points.

With the win Okoboji is even at 1-1 on the year and in the conference. Sheldon falls to 0-2 on the year and in the Siouxland.

Sheldon returns to action Saturday afternoon with a non-conference  doubleheader  at South O’Brien. Pregame for the girls on AM 1550 and FM 100.7 begins at 2:50. Opening tip at 3:00 with the boys game to follow.

Okoboji is off until Tuesday when they travel to Rock Valley.
