Pioneer Girls Top Orabs, Sheldon Boys Win In 2 OT

Okoboji, Iowa — The Okoboji Pioneers and Sheldon Orabs split a conference double header Tuesday night in Okoboji. The Pioneers took the girls game 63-41, and the Sheldon boys won a double overtime thriller.

The Okoboji girls jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter, and after one had a 14-6 lead. Sheldon battled back in the second to get to within three, but Okoboji would lead 24-15 at intermission. After three Okoboji was in front 44-29 and went on to win 63-41.

Okoboji had 2 players in double figures. Kallyn Stumbo had a game high 22 points, and Magan Christopherson had fifteen points. Sheldon got a team high eight points from Emily Meyer.

Sheldon falls to 5-10 on the year and 2-10 in the Siouxland. Okoboji improves to 13-2 on the season, and 10-2 in the conference

In the boys contest, Sheldon jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead, and after the first quarter, Sheldon was ahead 17-7. Sheldon stayed in front heading into the break at 24-18 after Cody Vaselaar made a three pointer as time expired. After three Sheldon had a 32-26 lead. Okoboji battled back in the fourth quarter as the game was even midway through the final quarter. Okoboji had a 38-36 point lead, with 10 seconds to play in regulation when Mitchel Wolf tied the game up at 38-38 to send it into overtime. In the extra frame, the game was tied at 43-43 with 9 seconds to go, and Okoboji could not convert and the game went into a second overtime. In the second extra four minutes, Sheldon hit key free throws late and came away with the 56-49 win.

Sheldon got a game high twenty points from Wolf and Tye Sudbeck had ten points. Okoboji got a team high fifteen from Lucas Lorenzen.

With the win Sheldon improves to to 4-10 on the year, and 2-9 in the Siouxland. Okoboji falls to to 4-10 on the season and 3-8 in the conference.

Up next for the Orabs is a home contest against MOC-Floyd Valley on Friday night. Okoboji will be on the road to Rock Valley on Friday night.
