Raider Softball Splits With Benedictine For 2nd Straight Day

Benedictine, Kansas — Northwestern and Benedictine split a doubleheader for the second consecutive day in non-conference play at Ravens Field in Benedictine, Kan. The Raiders dropped game one 2-1 in nine innings but came to win the nightcap, 5-2.

Tied 1-1, Northwestern scored four runs in the top of fourth inning to take the lead for good in game two. Kamryn Etherington led off with a double and pinch runner Alayna Bakke came around to score on a stolen base and fielding error by the Ravens. Emily Bosch later hit a two-run single and Jennifer Boeve finished the scoring with an RB single.

Samantha Ubben (4-4) was outstanding in the circle for the Raiders, limiting Benedictine to seven hits and two runs in a complete-game win. The senior struck out three and did not record a walk.

The Ravens were led by Lenae Salinas with two hits and a run scored; Alicia Armijo took the loss, allowing five hits and four earned run in 3.1 innings.

Game one was a pitchers dual, won by the Ravens in the bottom of the ninth on a groundout by Natalie Sheffield. Kameryn Etherington picked up a no-decision for head coach Shane Bouman’s squad, giving up six hits and one run in six innings. Ubben (4-4) took the loss, pitching the final 2.1 innings.

Northwestern totaled seven hits, led by Jordyn Kramer going 2-for-3 with an RBI double leading to her team’s lone run in the sixth. Jessica Mouw, Bri Giordano, Erika McKenney, Emily Strasser and Etherington all had one hit each.

MacKenzie Pinkerton worked the first 6.2 innings and Alex Gilham earned the win, pitching the final 2.1 innings.
