Silvis, Illinois — The Northwestern College men’s golf team finished third and Dordt finished 13th in the field with a 327-324=651 and was two strokes behind IU South Bend and nine strokes behind Mt. Vernon Nazarene at the two-day, 36-hole TPC Deere Run Invitational played this weekend at the TPC Deere Run Golf Course in Silvis, Ill.
Tied for third after shooting a 307 in Friday’s first round, Northwestern maintained its spot in the team standing after today’s final round score of 312. The Raiders 36-hole total of 619 tied IU-Kokomo for third out of 16 teams and finished 10 strokes out of second place (Missouri Valley). Faulkner won the team title with a 607; Northwestern finished four shots ahead of fellow GPAC-team, Doane.
Trevor Rupp (Spring Arbor) claimed medalist honors with a 144 (+2), one stroke in front of Ryan Feauto, who led the Dordt effort with a 72-73=145 for second place overall in the 92 golfer field. Dustin Widman had an 83-84=167 and tied for 66th.
Brock Murphy was the top Raider golfer, finishing tied for 10th overall with a two-day, 36-hole total of 151. The sophomore closed the tournament with a 79 today and recorded his team-best fourth top 10 finish this season. Ezra Meyer placed just outside the top 10, finishing 13th with a 153 (72/81).
Northwestern’s next three golfers all shot better in today’s second round, led by Kyle Christy who trimmed seven strokes off his day one score and moved up 20 place to finish 30th overall. The freshman shot a 157 (82/75). Jake Olsen shot two strokes better than Friday’s score of 80, closing with a 78, to place tied for 35th with a 158. Kolby Newborg improved 19 spots in the standing with a 76 today, a seven-stroke improvement from day one.
