Red Raider Women Drop Close Game With Grand View

Northwestern College came up short against Grand View, 75-66, in the final game of the Pizza Ranch Classic played this afternoon at the Bultman Center. The Raiders fall to 0-2 this season; Grand View is now 1-2.

The teams played a close first half with Northwestern holding the largest lead for either squad, 22-17 and 27-22, following a three-pointer from Emilee Danner with five minutes left. Grand View closed with an 8-2 run, however, and led 30-29 by the break.

The Vikings extended their lead to 13 (47-34), outscoring the hosts 17-5 during the first six minutes of the third quarter. A three-pointer and free throw by Sammy Blum put the Raiders within seven by quarter’s end, 55-48.

Northwestern and Grand View traded baskets over the first few minutes of the final quarter until a basket by Hannah Nerem and three-pointer from Jazy Prins cut the lead down to four, 62-58, at the five minute mark. Grand View extended its lead back up to 10 moments later and went on to earn their second win of the season.

Danner and Blum led Northwestern with 12 points each; Danner went 4-for-4 from the three-point line and pulled down four rebounds. Alexis Toering added nine points and eight boards. The Raiders shot 37% for the game, 47% (9/19) from the three-point arc.

Grand View was led by the duo of Shannon Pisney (28 points) and Mia Rosener (18pts, 8 blocks); the Vikings shot 39% for the game and held a slight 42-39 edge on the glass.
