Rockets Sweep Orabs Tuesday Night

Sheldon Iowa — Rock Valley swept a Siouxland Conference basketball double header in Sheldon Tuesday night. The girls game went to the Rockets 76-56. The boys game went down to the wire with Rock Valley posting a 69-61 win to open the season.

In the girls game the Rockets jumped out to a 23-4 lead that set them up the rest of the way. at the half it was 46-26 and at the end of the third Rock Valley held a 63-41 advantage. The Rockets got a game high 21 points from Lexi Van Kekerix. She was joined in double figures by Abby Heemstra with 16, Madi Strubbe with 13 and Lizzy Blum with 11 points.

Sheldon had two players in double figures led by Brooklyn Grady with 14 points and Ashley Brouwer with 10.

It was the season opener for Sheldon while Rock Valley with a win on Monday improves to 2-0 for the year and in the conference.

In the boys contest the Rockets got out to a 15-11 first quarter lead and were up 28-16 at the half. At the end of three the lead was up to 49-33 before the Orabs mounted a comeback that game them a brief lead late in the game. Rock Valley was able to hit some key free throws and key baskets down the stretch to earn the win 69-61.

Three Rockets hit double figures led by a game high 29 from Jaxon Rus including a 10 point fourth quarter. Alex Godfredson hit for 13 with Sam Remmerde adding 11.

Sheldon put four players in double figures with Tye Sudbeck hitting for 22 including 4 fourth quarter 3’s. On the night he hit for a total of six from behind the line. Mitchel Wolf hit for 16 points with Jordan Jeffries and Brady Waldstein knocking down  11 points each.

The boys game was the season opener for both teams. Sheldon returns to action Friday hosting Okoboji while Rock Valley will host Central Lyon.
