Schoonhoven, Williams Earn GPAC Football Honors

Sioux City, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played on Saturday, September 21, 2019.  Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2019-2020 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week

Offense – Levi Schoonhoven, Running Back (Dordt University)
Dordt running back Levi Schoonhoven is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Schoonhoven, a senior from Hospers, Iowa, established a new single-game rushing record for Dordt with 298 yards on 35 carries. He also surpassed 2,000 career rushing yards in the win over Jamestown and is now third all-time at Dordt in career rushing yards. Schoonhoven’s 298 yards was the most by an NAIA player this season and the most rushing yards for an individual in the GPAC since October 18, 2014. The Defenders will host the Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan on September 28.  Kick off will be at 1 pm.

Special Teams – Braxton Williams, Kicker (Northwestern College)
Braxton Williams of Northwestern is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Williams, a junior, from Fort Madison, Iowa, helped lead 10th-ranked Northwestern to a 52-7 win over Dakota Wesleyan last weekend. Williams accounted for 10 points against DWU, converting a 31-yard field goal and all seven extra point attempts. He averaged nearly 65 yards on his nine kickoff returns with five touchbacks. Williams is a perfect 5-for-5 in field goal attempts on the year and 14-of-15 on extra points. Northwestern will host the University of Jamestown on September 28.   Kick off will be at 1 pm.
