Sheldon And HMS Split At Hartley Monday Night

Hartley, Iowa — Sheldon and Hartley Melvin Sanborn split a non conference doubleheader in Hartley Monday night with the Orabs winning the opener 60-45. The boys game went to the Hawks 55-51.

Sheldon led at all the breaks in the girls game. The Orabs were up 10-5 at the end of the first quarter, 28-13 at halftime, 43-29 at the end of three before getting the win 60-45.

Sheldon got a game high 24 points from Claire Johnson and 11 from Makkena Kleinhesselink. Payton Lode was just out of double figures with 9. HMS got a team high 18 from Jasmine Lux. Lydia Harders was next with 8 points.

With the win Sheldon is 7-5 on the year while the Hawks are 3-7.

 

In the boys game HMS went on an 8-0 run to start the game and were up 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. Shane Brouwer scored 12 points in the second quarter as Sheldon moved in front 23-22 at the half. The Hawks regained the lead at the end of the third quarter and were up 37-32 going into the fourth. Cooper Ebel hit for 8 points in the fourth quarter and Lance Berends added 7 as the Hawks went on to win 55-51.

Brouwer led all scorers with 22 for the Orabs. he was joined in double figures by Blake Radke who scored 11 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter. Berends led HMS with 19 points. Ebel finished with 16. Travis Kamradt enjoyed a 16 point night as well with a line that included 5 treys on the night.

With the win the Hawks are 4-6 on the year. Sheldon falls to 3-8 for the season. Sheldon will be in action Tuesday night hosting Hinton in another non conference double header.
