Sheldon And MOC Floyd Valley Split Saturday Afternoon Doubleheader

Sheldon Iowa — Sheldon split a Saturday afternoon basketball Doubleheader with MOC Floyd Valley at the Orina. The Dutch took the girls game 52-43 with Sheldon getting the boys game 56-37.

In the girls game MOC Floyd Valley took an 18-10 first quarter lead and extended that to 31-15 at halftime. At the end of the third quarter the lead was up to 25 at 42-23. Sheldon would battle back in the fourth quarter with the Dutch winning by 9 points 52-43.

Sheldon got a game high 18 from Brooklyn Grady and 13 from Maliah Kleinhesselink. The Dutch were led by Jazlin De Haan with 17. Kiernan Groendyke knocked down 12 points all from behind the arc as the Dutch worked both inside and outside for the win.

The Dutch improve to 7-7 on the year and 4-6 in the conference. Sheldon is 4-11 with a 3-8 Siouxland Conference mark.

 

In the boys contest Colton Korver hit a three as time expired in the first quarter to cut a potential 11-6 Orab lead to 11-9. At halftime Sheldon had moved in front 24-15. An 11-0 run to start the third quarter propelled  Sheldon to a 43-20 lead at the end of the third and they went on to a 59-36 win.

The Orabs put three players in double figures getting a game high 22 from Shane Brouwer. Kaleb Ackerman added 14 while Tye Sudbeck knocked down a dozen. The Dutch were led by Carter Aalbers with a 10 point night.

Next up for the Orabs is a Tuesday trip to the Sibley Ocheyedan Gym. MOC Floyd Valley is also in action Tuesday playing host to Okoboji.
