Sibley Iowa — Sheldon and Sibley Ocheyedan split a conference basketball double header at the Sibley Ocheyedan High School Gym Tuesday night. The Generals claimed the girls game 65-44 with the boys game going to Sheldon 66-41.
In the girls game the Generals jumped out to a 19-9 first quarter lead and never looked back. They were up 41-19 at the half and 61-29 after three as they went on to win 65-44.
A pair of freshmen and and a junior led the way with freshman Madison Brouwer hitting for a game high 19. Fellow freshman Bria Wasmund hit for 12 as did junior Kelli Greenfield. Sheldon was led by Sophomore Payton Lode with 10 fourth quarter points. Senior Sydney Olsen was next with 8 points.
With the win the Generals are 6-10 for the year and 5-10 in the conference. Sheldon is now 5-12 for the year and 4-10 in the Siouxland.
In the boys game that followed Sibley Ocheyedan jumped out to an early lead only to see the Orabs tie it at 15-15 at the end of the first quarter. The Sheldon offense caught fire in second quarter. The exclamation point was a Mitchel Wolf three at the buzzer that put Sheldon up 35-22 at the half. The Orabs stayed hot in the third quarter leading 53-29 at the break and went on to a 66-41 win.
The Orabs put four players in double figures led by Kaleb Ackerman with a game high 17 points. Jordan Jefferies and Tye Sudbeck added a dozen each with Mitchel Wolf dropping in 11. The Generals had two players in double figures getting a team high 11 from Jack Carlson and 10 from Carter Brouwer.
With the win Sheldon is 5-11 on the year and 4-9 in the Siouxland. The Generals are looking for their first win. Up next for both teams will be a return to action on Friday. The Orabs will be on the road at George Little Rock. The Generals will host Okoboji.
