Sheldon and Spencer Split Non-conference Basketball Doubleheader

Spencer Iowa — Sheldon traveled to Spencer Tuesday night for a basketball doubleheader and returned home with a split. Sheldon took the girls game 60-51 while the Tigers won the boys game 67-50.

Sheldon led at all the breaks in the girls game. They were up 11-10 at the end of the first quarter and pushed that to a 31-19 first half lead. At the end of the third quarter the Orabs were up 46-35 as they went on to win it 60-51.

A pair of freshman dueled for top scoring honors with Spencer’s Allison Piercy leading all scorers with 20 points and Maliah Kleinhesselink leading the Orabs with 18 points. Brooklyn Grady and Cassidy Bart had 9 points each for Sheldon. Kenzie Bruning had a 7 point night for the Tigers.

With the win Sheldon is 4-8 for the year while the Tigers fall to 2-9.

In the boys contest it was tied at 15-15 after the first 8 minutes of play. At the half Spencer was up 30-25. They pushed the advantage to 45-35 at the end of the third quarter before going on to win 67-50.

Sheldon was led by Marshall Kleinhesselink with 11 points. Tyler Lode and Ty Sudbeck were next with 9 points each. Spencer got a game high 25 points from Michael Storey. Karter Petzenhauser hit for 17 while Colin Slattery added 12 points.

With the  win Spencer has put together an 8-3 record. The Orabs are 2-9 for the year.

Sheldon returns to action on Friday playing host to Rock Valley. The Tigers return to action on Thursday with another non-conference doubleheader. They will be at Algona.
