Sheldon Downs Sibley Ocheyedan in Siouxland Conference Softball

Sheldon Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs posted a 12-6 win over Sibley Ocheyedan in Siouxland Conference softball Tuesday night in Sheldon.

The Orabs opened with a 5 run first inning as the top five hitters in the order reached and scored. Alexa Van Den Hall drove in a pair of runs with a single to right. Nicole Meyer singled in a run and Zoe Koerselman drove in 2 more with a single to center.

Sibley Ocheyedan scored a run in the second as Britta Harberts reached on an error and later scored on a single to right by Summer Kruse.

Sheldon scored 4 in the fifth as Nicole Meyer, Zoe Koerselman, Madison Van Meeteren and Mallory McQueen all reached and scored. McQueen singled in a pair of runs while Nicole Johnson and Alexa Vanden Hall each had an rbi in the inning to make it 9-3 Sheldon after three innings.

Sheldon added a run in the fourth as Madison Van Meeteren singled and later scored on a bases loaded walk.

The Generals plated 2 runs in the fifth inning as Jill Berkland reached on an error followed by a base on balls to Toni Lonneman. Michaela Block drove them both in with a double to center field to cut the lead to 10-5.

Sheldon got a pair back in the fifth inning as Nicole Meyer singled followed by a walk to Zoe Koerselman. Meyer scored on an rbi single by Mallory McQueen and Koerselman scored on an rbi single from McKenzie Wagner.

In the top of the sixth Sibley Ocheyedan closed out the scoring as Jada Carlson singled and scored on a single by Megan Block that made the final 12-6 in favor of Sheldon.

Nicole Johnson got the win giving up 6 runs on 11 hits while striking out 5. Peyton Crichton took the loss. She gave up 12 hits and struck out 5.

With the win Sheldon moves to 6-5 on the year and 4-2 in the conference. Sibley Ocheyedan is 0-8 for the year and 0-6 in the Siouxland. Sheldon travels to Sioux Center Wednesday night. Next action for the Generals will come on Thursday when they host Boyden Hull Rock Valley.
