Sheldon Iowa — The Sheldon 7th and 8th grade track and field season came to a close with some high light moments. Head Coach Jim Gude shared the top ten with KIWA Sports. The list included two new school records. One of those was a high jump record that had stood for 24 years.
Top 10 Highlights from this season:
1. Maddie Olson (8th grade) jumped 5’4″, breaking Jessica Ruby’s 24-year old record of 4’11”. Maddie Olson also won the event in every meet this season, topping the 5′ mark in three of the six meets.
2. Claire Johnson (8th grade)broke the record in the 100 m hurdles, running the event in 16.66 seconds, besting Bryn Groff’s record of 16.76 seconds. Claire won this event in 5 of the 6 meets this season.
3. Kaitlyn Grady (8th grade) placed in either/or both the shot put and discus in every meet this season, and placing 1st or 2nd 8 times this season.
4. The 8th grade shuttle hurdle relay team (Reese Strouth, Izzy Freeman, Elle Becker, Claire Johnson) finished 1st or 2nd in every meet this season.
5. Reese Strouth and Izzy Freeman each placed in the Top 6, in 5 of the 6 meets in every meet this season, with each girl topping 13 feet at least once this season.
6. Tamson Budden (shot put) and Alyssa Schnoor (discus) placed in the Top 6 in every 7th grade meet this season.
7. Gracia Scheaffer (8th grade) and Brinda Nuckols (7th grade) placed in the Top 6 in everyone of their respective meets in the 1500 m this season.
8. Tori Elgersma (7th grade) placed in the Top 6 in the 200 m and 400 m in every meet this season,
9. Madison Nunes finished in the Top 5 in the 100 meters in each 7th grade meet this season.
10. Macy Jager finished in the Top 5 in the 200 m hurdles in each 7th grade meet this season.
