Orange City Iowa — Sheldon split a pair of Siouxland Conference games at MOC Floyd Valley Tuesday night. The girls game went to the Lady Dutch 41-29 while the Orabs took the boys game 37-32.
In the girls game MOC Floyd Valley led 7-2 at the end of the first quarter with the Orabs pulling to within 15-13 at the half. The Lady Dutch took control in the third quarter and led 28-15 going into the final 8 minutes. They claimed the win 41-29.
Lily De Haan led all scorers with 9 points followed by Ashley Kelderman with 8. Sheldon was led by Bryn Groff and McKenzie Wagner with 6 points each.
With the win MOC Floyd Valley improves to 4-3 for the year and 4-2 in the conference. Sheldon is 1-6 on the year and 0-6 in the conference.
In the boys game it was offense dominating the first half and defense dominating the second half. Sheldon hit 5 three-point buckets for the game all in the first half and led 15-10 at the end of the first quarter and 25-22 at the half. The two teams would trade two buckets each in the third quarter with Sheldon in front 29-26 going into the fourth quarter. In the final four seconds with Sheldon in front 34-32 Sam Wagner hit the first of two free throws to put the Orabs up by three. A miss on the second was put back by Kyle Boerhave as time expired and Sheldon had a 37-32 win.
Boerhave led all scorers with 13 points. Trenton De Haan hit double figures with 11 for the Dutch. He Knocked down a pair of threes in the fourth quarter and a trio of threes on the night to highlight his effort.
With the win Sheldon improves to 5-1 on the season and 4-1 in the Siouxland. MOC Floyd Valley stands at 2-4 on the season and 1-4 in the conference. The Orabs host Sibley Ocheyedan Friday night. The Dutch will be at Okoboji.
