State Baseball Opens Monday With 1A Quarterfinals

The Iowa State Baseball Tournament opens Monday with the Quarterfinals in 1A. This year’s tournament will be contested at two different sites. The 1A and 2A tournament will be hosted by Carroll while 3A and 4A will be played at Duane Banks Field on the campus on the University of Iowa.

Remsen St Mary’s drew the top seed in Class 1A and will face #8 seed Grundy Center at 11:00 am on Monday the 26th to open the 1A tournament. Remsen St Mary’s is 26-3. Grundy Center is 10-8.

Play gets underway on Tuesday for 2A. Unity Christian drew the #4 seed and will open play Tuesday the 27th at 11:00 am when they play the first game of the 2A tourney against 5 seed Clarinda. Unity takes a 20-7 record to state while Clarinda comes in at 18-11. 1A and 2A championship games are set for Thursday July 29th in Carroll.

MOC Floyd Valley will represent northwest Iowa in the 3A Tournament. The Dutch (27-8) are seeded 7th in the field and will square off against #2 seed Xavier (26-12) in the third quarterfinal of the day.   First pitch is set for 5:00 pm on Wednesday July 28th. Championships in 3A and 4A will be decided on Saturday July 31st in Iowa City.
