Van Kley Added To Defender Volleyball

Sioux Center, Iowa — Lydia Van Kley, a senior at Western Christian High School (Iowa) has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender volleyball program.

“Lydia’s volleyball development each year has been a joy to watch, from her days attending our volleyball camps in middle school on through high school. Her passing, digging, read on the hitters attack, serving, and out of system setting have grown along with her competitive spirit. She loves the Lord and is a great representative of The Defender Way. Lydia will provide some strong competition for the ball control position. We want to thank her high school coach Tammi Veerbeek for her development,” said former Dordt volleyball coach Chad Hanson.

Van Kley is a defensive specialist who recorded 660 digs during her career with 90 ace serves and a 90 percent service rate. She was a first-team all-state selection in 2021 while helping Western Christian to a runner-up finish at the Class 2A State Tournament. She was a All-Northwest Iowa Review third-team pick this season and was a second-team all-Lakes Conference honoree in 2020.

I chose Dordt because I love the community and it feels like home. I like that there’s always something fun happening on campus,” said Van Kley.

Lydia is the daughter of Candice and Bryan Van Kley of Sioux Center, Iowa. She is undecided on an intended field of study.
