Veerbeek, Sterk Earn GPAC Basketball Honors

Sioux City, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following basketball players-of-the-week for contests played February 15-21 2021. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2020-2021 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Basketball Players-of-the-Week

Women – Ashtyn Veerbeek, Dordt University (Forward)

Dordt forward Ashtyn Veerbeek is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports women’s basketball player-of-the-week. Veerbeek, a junior from Sioux Center, Iowa, posted her 13th double-double of the season in a 33 point win over Briar Cliff. In addition, she added five assists and five blocked shots to her 13 point, 13 rebound effort.

Men – Craig Sterk, Northwestern College (Forward)

Craig Sterk of Northwestern is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports men’s basketball player-of-the-week. Sterk, a junior from McBain, Michigan, netted a career-high 34 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, his fifth double-double of the season and ninth for his career, in a win over the No. 8 Morningside Mustangs. He also scored his 1,000th career point, reaching the milestone with his second basket of the game. Sterk made 8-of-11 field goal attempts in assuring his team the win and the No.2 seed in the GPAC tournament. Sterk also earned NAIA National Men’s Basketball player of the week honors on Tuesday.
