Warriors Down Orabs in Sheldon

Sheldon Iowa — Sioux Center took advantage of a pair of Orab turnovers and resulting short fields to take control of a close game against the Orabs  in Sheldon. The Warriors turned a 14-7 lead into a 21-7 advantage as they rolled to a 54-14 win.

Sioux Center scored on their first possession as Sam Vonk capped a 51 yard drive with a 13 yard run. Damon Walhof added the extra point and it was 7-0 Warriors with 8:34 to go in the first quarter.

Sheldon answered as Tyrel Lindemann returned a deep kickoff to the 35 yard line and Sheldon drove 65 yards for the tie. Kaleb Ackerman hit Lindemann on the slant for 24 yards to finish the drive. Brian Bernal added the extra point and the game was even at 7-7 with 5:10 to go in the first quarter.

Sioux Center went on a 71 yard drive with Lane Kamerman scoring on an 8 yard run with 2:34 left in the first. With Walhof adding the extra point the Warriors were in front for good 14-7.

Sheldon would fumble on their next possession at their own 11 and Vonk found the end zone for a second time to make it 21-7. Following a blocked punt Walhof found Eli Hibma for a 30 yard touchdown pass to make it 27-7 at halftime.

in the third quarter Mathew Bomgaars scored on a 30 yard run, Vonk added a 1 yard touchdown run to make it 40-7 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter the Orabs scored on a 70 yard drive capped by a 5 yard touchdown pass from Ackerman to Brendan Cain. Bernal’s extra point made it 40-14.

Sioux Center finished the scoring with a 15 yard Kamerman run and a 15 yard quarterback keeper by Zackery Rozeboom. The extra point would make the final 54-14.

With the win Sioux Center is off to a 2-0 district record and 4-2 on the year. Sheldon is 2-4 on the year and 1-1 in the district.

Sheldon travels to Boyden Hull Rock Valley next Friday while Sioux Center will host Okoboji.
