Northwest Iowa – Here’s the latest Northwest Iowa Fishing Report, as released by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources on Thursday, March 13th.
East Okoboji Lake
Many areas have opened up. A few anglers have already launched boats. Courtesy docks are not yet in place. The walleye season is currently closed. Black Crappie – Good: Bluegill – Fair: Largemouth Bass – Fair: Yellow Perch – Fair: Many fish have been observed; sorting will most likely be needed.
Ingham Lake
The lake is mostly open. Walleye – Fair: Morning and afternoon bite is best.
Silver Lake (Dickinson)
Large portions of the lake have opened up. Walleye – Fair: The bite has been hit-or-miss.
Spirit Lake
Some areas can still be fished if traveling by foot. Many accesses and areas are now open water. The walleye season is currently closed. Black Crappie – Good: Anglers have been finding fish of quality size up to 14-inches. Bluegill – Good. Yellow Perch – Good: Sorting is needed; anglers are finding many of acceptable size.
West Okoboji Lake
Large portions of the lake have opened up due to high winds. Many smaller holes have started to pop up. The walleye season is currently closed. Black Crappie – Fair: Bluegill – Fair.
Ice conditions on most area lakes has deteriorated heavily. Larger lakes have areas that have opened up significantly. Smaller lakes still have areas that allow foot traffic for ice fishing. Access from shore may be hard to find. The walleye season on the IGL’s is closed until May 3rd. For current conditions, call 712-330-2542.
