West Lyon Outlasts Nighthawks

Inwood, Iowa — The 1A #1 West Lyon Wildcats were able to outlast the 2A #2 Nighthawks 35-28 at Jay Rozeboom Sports Complex Friday night.

The Wildcats controlled the first half and jumped out to a 21-0 lead, and by halftime it was 28-7 West Lyon. The Wildcats added another touchdown in the 3rd when Micah Meyer punched it in from 2 yards out and made it 35-7 midway in the 3rd quarter.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley then put on the pressure. Following a big punt return, JT Van’t Hul scrambled into the endzone from 1 yard out to make it 35-14 West Lyon. Following a West Lyon fumble on the ensuing drive, Elliott Van Kekerix scored from 17 yards out on the catch and run, pulling the Nighthawks to within 14. West Lyon then turned the ball over on downs and Elliott Van Kekerix again found the endzone on the next drive, this time from 2 yards out, but, West Lyon was able to manage the clock, get some key first downs, stop a late Nighthawk drive and come away with the 35-28 victory.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley falls to 1-1 on the year, and opens district play in Rock Valley next Friday against Estherville-Lincoln Central.

West Lyon improves to 2-0 on the year and takes on Okoboji for their district opener next week.
