Hull Iowa — Western Christian opened 2A Region 3 tournament play with a 12-1 home win over Sibley Ocheyedan. The first round game was played Monday night at Hull. The Wolfpack now advance to the quarterfinals on Wednesday at Larchwood against West Lyon who received a first round bye.
Western opened the scoring with a four run first inning. Josie Zeutenhorst led off with a single. Tori Wynia reached on an error off a fly ball to the outfield. Jadyn Faber hit a 3-run homer to right field to drive in the first three runs. Gracie Dykstra singled and later scored on Cassie Van otterloo’s double to left.
Western added a run in the second inning as Wynia doubled and later scored on a single through the right side of the infield hit by Faber.
The Wolfpack added three runs in the third as Madison Vis singled. Emily Heynen followed with a bunt single and Zeutenhorst walked to load the bases. Wynia cleared them with a double to the left field corner that made it 8-0.
The Generals got on the board in the fifth inning. Olivia Bosma reached on an error and scored on a single to center off the bat of Halle Block to cut the lead to 8-1.
Van otterloo ended the game with a grand slam to straight away center field. Scoring ahead of Van otterloo were Faber, Hannah Jansma and Dykstra to make the final 12-1.
Faber earned the win going five innings and giving up 1 run on 5 hits. She struck out 2. Alayna Wingate took the loss for the Generals.
With the win the Wolfpack are 9-7 heading into the Region quarterfinals on Wednesday. Sibley Ocheyedan ends the year at 4-9.
