Western Girls Fall To E-Hawks In Thriller

Emmetsburg, Iowa — The Western Christian Wolfpack girls basketball team fell in an overtime thriller to Emmetsburg 45-39 Tuesday night in Emmetsburg.

Western jumped out a quick 4-0 lead but Emmetsburg went on a 5-0 run to take the lead in the first. Western would lead after 1 quarter, 6-5. Emmetsburg would go on a 9-0 run in the second and take a 22-14 lead into the half. Western would tighten the game up in the third, and trail by three, 26-23 heading into the fourth. Late in the fourth, Nique Billiran would put the jumper off glass give the E-Hawks the 35-33 lead with 11 seconds left in regulation. With 5 seconds to go, Stella Winterfeld would get the ball down on the right block and put the layup off glass and good to send the game into overtime.

In the extra four minutes, Emmetsburg’s Reagan Swanson would go off for 8 points and give the E-Hawks the win 45-39.

Emmetsburg got a game high 20 points from Swanson. Western had a team high 14 from Lydia Van Kley.

Western falls to 0-1 on the year and will play Newell-Fonda on Tuesday, November 30th in Hull. Emmetsburg improves to 1-0 on the year and will host Cherokee next week Tuesday.
