Western Takes Two At Spirit Lake

Spirit Lake Iowa — Western Christian swept a Lakes Conference basketball doubleheader at Spirit Lake Monday night. The girls posted a 71-32 win while the boys won their ninth straight 74-62.

In the girls game  the Wolfpack took a 16-11 first quarter lead. By half time it was up to 32-21. At the end of the third quarter Western was in control 56-29 as they went on to win it 71-32.

Four players hit double figures led by a game high 18 points from Abby Postma. Olivia Granstra, Madison Vis and Ally Postma joined her in double figures with 12 points each. Spirit Lake was led by Emma Loveall and Brooke Smith with 8 points each.

With the win Western is 9-4 on the season and 4-1 in the conference. Spirit Lake falls to 7-6 on the season and 2-3 in the Lakes Conference.

In the boys game Western took control of a close game in the third quarter to get their ninth straight win. At the end of the first quarter the WOlfpack led 19-15. By halftime the lead was four at 34-30. By the end  of the third Western had built a 52-40 lead as they went on to a 74-62 win.

Western got a game high 25 points from Dawson Feenstra as four of the five starters found double figures. Wyatt Gulker and Tate Winterfeld hit for 14 points each while Tyson Boer added 13. The Indians had two players in double figures led by Michael Dulin with 19 points and Vance Katzfey with 17 on the night.

With the win Western is 9-2 on the year and a perfect 5-0 in the conference. Spirit Lake is 9-4 on the year and 3-2 in the conference.

Both teams are back in action Tuesday night as Western plays host to Estherville Lincoln Central.
