Larchwood, Iowa — Wildcats sweep Orabs in Siouxland Conference basketball on their home court. Girls fall 48-29 and the boys fall 77-62 in the night cap.
West Lyon would lead at all the breaks pushing out to a 12-7 first quarter lead behind an 8-point quarter from sophomore Brooklyn Meyer. Wildcat’s zone defense kept the Orabs offense at bay throughout the first half pushing their lead to 24-13 at intermission. The Orabs kept pace with the Wildcats in the third quarter but still trailed 31-19 heading into the fourth. Wildcats added to their lead in the fourth and would go on to win 48-29.
Wildcats had eight players in the scorebook led in double figures by Brooklyn Meyer with 23 points. Sheldon also had one player in double figures as Makenna Kleinhesselink led the way with 12 points.
The Wildcats improve to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in the Siouxland. The Orabs fall to 2-7 overall and 2-6 in the Siouxland.
The Orabs came out on fire in the boys contest pushing out to a 12-4 advantage in the first few minutes of the first quarter only to see the Wildcats chip away at the lead and outscore the Orabs 14-1 on their way to a first quarter lead 18-13. Logan Meyer had the hot hand scoring 9 of his 34 points night in the quarter. The Orabs would hang tough and narrow the margin in the second quarter behind the hot shooting of Jordan Jefferies scoring 10 of his 15-points in the quarter but still trailed at intermission 31-28. The third quarter was back and forth but the Wildcats were able to push their lead to 7 leading 49-42 going into the fourth. Wildcats defense and free throws in the fourth quarter allowed them to extend their lead on go on to win 77-62.
West Lyon was led by a game 34 points from Logan Meyer and 13 points form Zach Van Beek. The Orabs had three players in double figures being led by 18 from Tye Sudbeck, 16 from Mitchal Wolf and 15 from Jordan Jefferies.
The Wildcats improve to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the Siouxland. The Orabs fall to 2-6 overall and 2-5 in Siouxland play.
Next up for the Orabs will be a road game in Hull to take on Boyden – Hull and the Wildcats will host Okoboji on Tuesday evening.
