Dordt Women’s Basketball To Host Morningside

Dordt will host Morningside in GPAC women’s basketball on Wednesday, January 20 at 6:00 pm.

The Mustangs are 15-2 overall and 13-1 in the GPAC and have a nine-game winning streak intact dating back to an 80-78 loss to Briar Cliff on December 9.

Morningside is outscoring teams 79.2-61.4 and outrebound teams 38-36.6. Morningside is outshooting teams 43.9-38.5 in percentage from the field and have converted 37 percent of the three-point shots it has taken. Morningside has forced 23 turnovers per game and give up 15 turnovers per outing.

Dordt is 11-7 this season and 10-5 in the GPAC and has won six out of its last seven and nine of its last 11.

Dordt is outscoring teams 71.9-65.8 and outrebound teams 44.7-34.5. Dordt converts 40.2 percent of its field goals while allowing teams to make 37.9 percent. Dordt also has made 33.2 percent of its three-point shots while opponents have made 32.2 percent.

Ashtyn Veerbeek is scoring 14.3 points per game while grabbing 9.8 rebounds per contest and she is making 45.4 percent of her field goal attempts and she is averaging 2.2 assists. Erika Feenstra is good for 12.9 points per game and Bailey Beckman adds 12.8 points per game with Feenstra taking away 5.4 rebounds and Beckman has handed out 2.7 assists per game and she leads the team with 22 steals. Karly Gustafson adds 10.2 points per game and she makes 55 percent of her field goals and she takes in 6.3 rebounds. Mya Chmielewski and Bailey Tetzlaff add 5.3 and 5.1 points per game respectively. Tetzlaff has 19 steals and Jordyn Winterfeld has 16.

Morningside came from behind and beat Concordia 66-64 in Seward on Saturday. The Mustangs forced 21 turnovers while committing 14 to help get eight more shots from the field. The Mustangs had 10 made three-point shots while Concordia converted just seven. Morningside was good for 32.9 percent field goal shooting and got outrebounded 45-43. Mitchell converted 15 points and Sims had 13 while Meyer added 12.

Erika Feenstra and Karly Gustafson each scored 15 and Ashtyn Veerbeek added 10 points as Dordt beat Hastings 72-53 on Saturday on the road. Dordt had a 40-28 rebounding advantage and got seven points from Hilary Albrecht and six by Macey Nielson. Gustafson led the Defenders with eight rebounds and Dordt converted 47.4 percent of its field goal tries in the win.

Dordt will travel to face Doane on Saturday, January 23 at 2:00 pm.
