IABRN — United States Trade Ambassador Robert Lighthizer has been negotiating with a Congressional working group to assuage concerns and bring the United States – Mexico – Canada Agreement (USMCA) to a floor vote in the House of Representatives. The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) is reminding lawmakers of the benefits to the red meat industry.

IABRN — There is one more item farmers need to keep an eye on this harvest season: Crop insurance.
IABRN — Haulers have certain rules they must follow. Rules for time on the road, and time to rest. This is designed to help cut down on many factors that contribute to driver fatigue. For livestock haulers, if you will pardon the pun, it is a different beast. Their cargoes are alive. Animals cannot endure just sitting in less than ideal weather conditions or in the small spaces meant for temporary transport. New legislation has been introduced to help alleviate the risk and strain for haulers and livestock owners.
IABRN — November is Hunger Awareness Month and Iowa farmers take their role in feeding the world to heart. “I’m proud the egg farmers in Iowa have stepped up for those that struggle to afford their products. Eggs are not only one of the most nutritious foods and best proteins in the diet, but they also have rarely been available to food bank customers, and certainly not on a consistent basis,” said Iowa Egg Council Executive Director, Kevin Stiles.
The average price received by farmers for corn during September in Iowa was $3.72 per bushel according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Agricultural Prices report. This was down 19 cents from the August price but 43 cents above September 2018.
