Alton Man Arrested, Charged With Four Counts

Orange City, Iowa — An Alton man has been arrested on four charges after an incident early on Sunday.

The Orange City Police Department reports that about 2:50 AM, they received a report from the public. They responded and after investigating the situation, they arrested 23-year-old Lennon Maras of Alton.

He was charged with Public Intoxication, Trespassing, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Disorderly Conduct.

According to jail records, he was released after posting a $1000 cash or surety bond.


Authorities Looking For Person Who Dumped Puppies

Sibley, Iowa — The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the public’s help.

They’re trying to find out who allegedly dumped several dead puppies off a bridge north of Sibley on Northwest Boulevard. They report that the puppies appeared to be from a medium to large breed of dog and appeared to have been dumped off the bridge sometime over the winter.

Harris Man Taken To Hospital After Accident

Harris, Iowa — A Harris man was taken to a hospital after an accident on Saturday morning, April 11, 2015.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 9:05 AM, they determined that 62-year-old Alan Dale Brueggeman of Harris was driving a 2014 Ford F150 pickup westbound on 130th Street, about a mile northeast of Harris near Yew Ave when he passed out.

The Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle crossed the center line, entered the south ditch, ran along the top of the ditch, running over fence posts, and finally hitting a utility pole.

Brueggeman was transported to the Worthington Hospital by the Ocheyedan Ambulance.

The pickup received about $15,000 in damage, according to authorities.


Text-A-Tip Results In Alcohol Violations

Hawarden, Iowa — Twelve young people were charged with alcohol violations after the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office received a “Text-a-Tip.”

They report that early on Sunday, at 12:35 AM, their officers investigated the report that said that a large group of people under the age of 21 were consuming alcohol at a farm building at 2081 400th Street, five miles northeast of Hawarden.

Upon further investigation, deputies did locate several people under the age of 21 consuming alcohol. Deputies charged 12 individuals under the age of 21 with illegal consumption of alcohol; of those 12 people, three were juveniles who were cited and released to their parents.

Additionally, 18-year-old Chantel Caskey of Hawarden was charged with contributing to the delinquency of minors.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hawarden Police Department and Sioux County Conservation Office.


Sibley Woman Arrested On Drug Charges

Sibley, Iowa — A Sibley woman has been arrested on drug charges.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Thursday April 9, 2015, one of their deputies arrested 32-year-old Nicole Lynn Ruffcorn of Sibley.

They say she was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.

Deputies report that the arrest stemmed from a traffic stop north of Sibley.

They say Ruffcorn is currently being held in the Osceola County Jail on a $2300 bond.


Rock Valley Man Arrested On Felony Count

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Rock Valley man has been arrested on a felony charge after several incidents.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that they arrested 53-year-old Michael Eugene Kats of Rock Valley early on Wednesday April 8, 2015.

Deputies say the arrest stems from a search after Kats allegedly made a 911 call to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department and sent multiple text messages to Lyon County Deputies.

Kats was charged with Harassment of a Public Officer, a Simple Misdemeanor, and Threats of Terrorism, a Class C Felony.

The Rock Valley Police Department, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Department, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department.
