Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man died after being ejected from his car in an accident north of Sheldon on Highway 60.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 3:50 AM on Saturday, April 4th, 20-year-old Raymond Wood of Sheldon was driving a 1997 Volkswagen Golf northbound on Highway 60, north of Sheldon.
The report says that Wood appeared to have fallen asleep or just went off the roadway, then went through the intersection of 270th Street and Highway 60 and then back off the roadway in the grass median. According to the report the Volkswagen then rolled what appeared to be multiple times and ended up back on the northbound lanes, where it came to rest on the opposite side of the roadway.
Wood was flown to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, where he later died.
Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Sibley man has been arrested after a report of a reckless driver.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at about 5:05 PM, their dispatcher received a complaint of a reckless driver entering Rock Rapids on Highway 9 from the west.
After an investigation the driver, identified as 67-year-old Kenneth Fransen of Sibley was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense, an aggravated misdemeanor; Interference With Official Acts Inflicting Bodily Injury, an aggravated misdemeanor; and Assault on a Peace Officer, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Fransen was booked into the Lyon County Jail on the charges. According to the Lyon County Jail roster, Fransen is no longer in jail.
Alvord, Iowa — A Boyden juvenile and her passenger were taken to a hospital after an accident near Alvord on Thursday, April 2, 2015.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department reports that about 12:45 PM, a girl from Boyden was driving a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora northbound on K42, three and a half miles east of Alvord at A 34. The report says she lost control as she was entering the gravel roadway, causing the car to enter the east ditch and roll onto its roof.
Both the driver and passenger were transported to the Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.
The Oldsmobile Aurora received approximately $3,000 in damage.
Alvord Fire and Rescue crews, Lyon County Ambulance personnel, and Trackside Towing assisted the Sheriff’s Office.
Hawarden, Iowa — A Hawarden man has been arrested after a crash.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 8:30 AM on Friday, April 3, they were called to make sure someone was okay at 4890 Birch Avenue, three miles south of Hawarden.
Twenty-one-year-old Garrett Carney of Hawarden called the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office to report that an intoxicated person was at his home. The sheriff’s office reports that after he called, he drove a 2001 Ford Mustang southbound on Birch Avenue, and lost control of the vehicle, which entered the west ditch and struck a ditch embankment. They say Carney left the vehicle on foot and could not initially be found. Officers patrolling the area say they located Carney about one mile from the vehicle as he attempted to conceal himself in a ditch.
No injuries were reported.
The Ford sustained about $4,000 in damages.
Carney was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
The sheriff’s office K9 unit and the Hawarden Police Department assisted in the investigation.
Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon emergency crews were called to an accident north of Sheldon on Highway 60 early Saturday morning.
On-scene reports indicate it was a one-vehicle rollover accident. One person was transported to Sanford Sheldon by SCAT.
The scene was five miles north of the northern Sheldon exit on 60. On-scene reports also indicate that the vehicle started to roll while in O’Brien County, but ended up just across the border in Osceola County. The O’Brien County authorities are handling the accident.
Responding were SCAT, Sheldon Fire and EMA, and the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
In the latest from the Sheldon Police Department, the Police Department took reports on Friday, March 27th of an impersonation on Oak Street in Sheldon.
The SPD also responded to a burglary on 10th Street on Friday the 27th.
Tasha Haefs, age 28 of Sioux City, Iowa was jailed on Sunday, March 29th around 8:30 pm. According to the report she was taken into custody for driving under suspension, a simple misdemeanor.
