Pipestone Teen Arrested For Possession

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8Lyon County, Iowa — A Pipestone, Minnesota teen faces drug charges after a traffic stop Thursday in Lyon County.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says one of their deputies stopped a vehicle in the 2100 mile of Highway 75 Thursday.  Upon investigation, the deputy allegedly found 19-year old Deen Barnes, of Pipestone, in possession of an unidentified controlled substance, as well as drug paraphernalia.

Authorities say Barnes was arrested and transported to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Car Strikes Barrier, Drives Off

Osceola Sheriff Car 72-2Osceola County, Iowa — Osceola County deputies cited a Remsen man who allegedly struck a barricade Wednesday.

Deputies say at about 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, 25-year old Austin Orlin Pratt, of Remsen, was driving a 2008 Kia Optima northbound on Northwest Blvd and collided with the barricade at 180th St.  Deputies say the vehicle then left the scene and was later located by law enforcement.  Pratt told officers the accident happened because he was distracted by the radio.

Damage to Pratt’s KIA was estimated at $7,000.   He was issued a citation for Failure to Maintain Control.

No injuries were reported.

Akron Woman Strikes Deer Near Sioux Center

deer_sxc2Sioux Center, Iowa — An Akron woman struck a deer on Tuesday, April 19th near Sioux Center. The Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident on April 20th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’ Office reports that at about 5:45 am on Tuesday, 24-year-old Carmen Vreugdenhil of Akron was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Elmwood Avenue, seven miles southwest of Sioux Center. According to the report, Vreugdenhil struck a deer in the roadway.

The Impala received $2500.

No injuries were reported

Sioux Falls Man Injured In Accident

sioux county sheriff emblemRock Valley, Iowa — A Sioux Falls man was taken to the Rock Valley Hospital with injuries he sustained in an accident near Rock Valley on Wednesday, April 20th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 6:22 pm on Thursday, 22-year-old David De Bruin of Sioux Falls, South Dakota was driving a 2015 Mazda Touring eastbound on 290th Street, 10 miles northwest of Rock Valley. According to the report, De Bruin lost control of his vehicle, entered the south ditch and struck a field driveway.

The Mazda received $5000 damage.

De Bruin was transported by the Rock Valley Ambulance to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley for treatment of his injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Rock Valley Ambulance and Inwood Rescue.

Sioux Center Woman Arrested For Forgery, ID Theft

Morales-RomasSioux Center — A Sioux Center woman faces Forgery, Identity Theft charges following her arrest Tuesday (April 19th).

Sioux County authorities say they received a report of an identity theft that had occurred at Center Fresh Egg in Sioux Center.  Deputies say their investigation revealed that 25-year old Lavreana Morales-Romas, of Sioux Center, had been illegally using  Texas resident’s identity for the past year.

The Sheriff’s Office says Morales-Romas was placed under arrest on charges of Forgery and Identity Theft.

Woman Loses Control, Enters Parking Lot, Strikes SUV

Lyon County Sheriff Car Door 60-8Rock Rapids, Iowa — Three people were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon in Rock Rapids.

According to Lyon County Sheriff’s personnel, the accident happened around 12:11 pm, on South Union Street in Rock Rapids.  Deputies say a northbound vehicle was stopped on South Union, waiting for oncoming traffic so they could make a left hand turn in to the Pizza Ranch.  Another northbound vehicle, a 2006 Pontiac Torrent, driven by 43-year old Luz Simons, of Rock Rapids, attempted to pass the stopped vehicle, but went out of control, entering the Pizza Ranch parking lot, and striking a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe that was parked in the lot.

Simons and two passengers, 21-year old Kaylie Blakey, of Rock Rapids, and 33-year old Darjay Williams, of Rock Rapids, reported having injuries and were transported to the Sanford Rock Rapids Hospital.

Both vehicles sustained approximately $5,000 in damages.
