Rock Valley Woman Sentenced For Felony Theft

Heather BloemendaalRock Valley, Iowa — A Rock Valley woman received a 10-year suspended prison sentence after accepting a plea agreement on a charge of Theft in the First Degree.

Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle says that 38-year old Heather June Bloemendaal, was sentenced in Sioux County District Court.   Kunstle says the case arose in July of 2015 when her employer, Stone Soup Café in Rock Valley, noticed that the daily deposits were not appearing in their business bank account.  He says further investigation by the Rock Valley Police Department revealed that Bloemendaal had committed theft in the first degree by taking more than $19-thousand between January and July of last year.

Pursuant to the plea agreement, Bloemendaal was sentenced to ten years suspended prison on the felony theft charge, placed on probation for four years, is required to reside at the Residential Treatment Facility in Sioux City, and ordered to pay full restitution, according to Kunstle.

Woman Injured After Rolling Pickup

accident wordAshton, Iowa — Icy roads caused an accident that sent a Little Rock woman to the hospital on Friday.

Osceola County authorities say the accident happened on 230th Street, just west of Ashton, when a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by 20-year old Julia Schaa of Little Rock went out of control on the icy roadway.  Deputies say Schaa overcorreted and the truck slid into the ditch and rolled, coming to rest on it’s wheels.

The Ashton Ambulance transported Schaa to the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.

Damage to Schaa’s pickup was estimated at $5,000.

Two Vehicle Accident In Orange City

orange city alton police oc pd ocpdOrange City, Iowa — Two vehicles were damaged in an accident on Saturday, February 6th in Orange City.

The Orange City Police Department reports that at about 7:24 pm on Saturday, 25-year-old Eva Nevarez Sanchez of Sibley was driving a 2014 Kia Sorento northbound on Albany Place southeast in Orange City. Twenty-eight-year-old Emmanuel Casas of Rock Valley was driving a 2005 Ford Focus northbound on Albany Place southeast behind Nevarez Sanchez. According to the report, Casas was trying to get Nevarez Sanchez to pull over, Casas passed Nevarez Sanchez and pulled in front of the Kia too soon, causing a collision. Casas was upset with Nevarez Sanchez because she was his girlfriend and she had another man with her. Nevarez Sanchez was upset with Casas because she didn’t want anything to do with him anymore.

The Kia received $1500 damage. The Ford received $1000 damage.

No injuries were reported

Spencer Man Rolls Vehicle

O'BrienSheriff obriensheriff O'Brien SheriffPrimghar, Iowa — A Spencer man’s vehicle rolled on Friday, February 5th near Primghar.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 3:55 pm on Friday, 37-year-old David Schmidt of Spencer was driving a 2005 GMC Envoy westbound on 390th Street, east of Primghar. According to the report, Schmidt lost control of the Envoy due to icy road conditions, entered the south ditch and rolled, coming to rest on the driver’s side.

The GMC received $3719 damage.

No injuries were reported

Nebraska Man Rolls Vehicle

Sioux Sheriff 84-8 FacebookHawarden, Iowa — A Nebraska man rolled his vehicle near Hawarden on Friday, February 5th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 6:11 am on Friday, 21-year-old Charles Brahmsteadt of Allen Nebraska was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Highway 12, one mile south of Hawarden. According to the report, Brahmsteadt lost control of the vehicle, entered the west ditch and rolled.

The Chevrolet received $3000 damage.

No injuries were reported

Sheldon Teen’s Vehicle Rolls

O'BrienSheriff obriensheriff O'Brien SheriffSanborn, Iowa — A Sheldon teen was injured after his vehicle rolled near Sanborn on Thursday, February 4th.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 8:58 pm on Thursday, that 18-year-old Jose Aguilar of Sheldon was driving a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser northbound on Pierce Avenue, southwest of Sanborn. According to the report, Aguilar lost control on the gravel and put the vehicle in the ditch where it rolled one time and came to rest on its side.

The PT Cruiser received $8500 damage.

Aguilar received minor injuries but did not seek medical attention
